Michael Ledner
You are My Hiding Place.
In January 1980, Michael Ledner — psalmist, shepherd, pastor — composed You Are My Hiding Place. He was 28 years old. Michael is always writing — taking scripture and setting it to melody, the way some people breathe. This song was no different. He wrote it, shared it with a few friends, made a cassette recording, and set it aside.
Nine months later, Michael shared the song with a group serving at a kibbutz in Israel. Those friends carried it back to California — and not long after, Maranatha! Music reached out wanting to record it on their next album, Praise 6.
The song began with Psalm 32:7. As melody and scripture wove together, he added Psalm 56:3 and 2 Corinthians 12:10. What emerged was something simple and true: when the storms of life come, we look for a place to hide. And Jesus is always there.
That song has been sung around the world for over forty years. And it's still being sung.
The words are simple. But they carry something — a reminder that in the middle of whatever you're walking through, you are not alone. There is a place to run. And He is always there.
You are my Hiding Place
You always fill my heart with songs of deliverance,
Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You — I will trust in You,
Let the weak say, "I am strong in the strength of my Lord."
